DESCRIPTION
Commerce Street, West Village, Manhattan, New York | Summer, 2021. This image captures one of the twin houses where Commerce Street winds around to merge into Barrow Street, in the heart of West Village. Numbers 39 and 41 Commerce Street was built in 1883 when the village of Greenwich was transitioning from a suburb to a part of the larger city.
The story says that the two houses were built by a father for his two daughters who didn't get along. The two houses were built next to each other with a shared garden in hope that it would bring them closer together.
Who doesn’t want to believe a story like that? Unfortunately, no evidence supports it.
